Fundraising Hints and Tips

Encourage generousity
Start your sponsorship form off with your most generous givers – if the first person has pledged £10 then this can really set the trend!

Set yourself a high target
Tell people how much you are aiming to raise. A high target can really motivate the sponsor to help you on your way.

Collect the sponsorship straight away
People will sponsor you as a total pledge, so ask them for the money there and then – they won’t be offended and it saves you the work of collecting it afterwards.

Friends, family and colleagues
Approach everyone you know and ask them to sponsor you – remember all the money you raise will go towards ELF and Macmillan. Don’t forget to ask family to ask their friends to sponsor you too. They may not know you but may wish to support Exeter Leukaemia Fund and Macmillan Cancer Support.

Company support
Whether you work for a small or large organisation, ask your company for support. Many companies match pound-for-pound donations made by their employees to registered charities. Turn the £100 that you have managed to raise into £200 with just one simple question! This is tax efficient for them and a fantastic way of increasing your sponsorship.

Set up an Online Sponsorship Page
Go to »Virgin Money Giving« (clickable link) and set up your very own online sponsorship page. This is easy to do and saves you having to collect money as it’s all done online. You can then link this sponsorship page to facebook / twitter or email the link out to your contacts and just see the money coming in for the charities!

Note: Please do NOT bring your sponsorship money with you on the night! After the event, please send your cheque and sponsorship forms for the total amount raised to Exeter Night Walk c/o ELF Office, Haematology Centre, RD&E Hospital, Barrack Road, Exeter, EX2 5DW.
And don’t forget to make sure everyone, where applicable, ticks the gift aid box on the sponsor forms – this can make a huge difference to ELF and Macmillan. Cheques should be made payable to ELF; the amount you raise will be split equally between ELF and Macmillan.
